Security Printing Press, Hyderabad (SPPH) is a commercial organization directly working under the administrative control of Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, Currency & Coinage Division, New Delhi. Government of India decided in 1980 to set up a Security Printing Press at the historical and Capital City of Andhra Pradesh state i.e. in Hyderabad to meet the requirements of Postal Stationery and other fiscal documents in the Country. This industrial unit was established in the year 1982 in the Campus of Nizam’s Mint Compound, presently known as India Government Mint, Saifabad (100 years old Mint) in an area about 2.5 acres in the heart of the twin cities of Hyderabad & Secunderabad adjacent to Andhra Pradesh State Secretariat and discharging the sovereign functions of the State and catering to the needs of the Central and various State Governments by printing and supplying of security documents such as Postal Stationery items, Central Excise Stamps, Non-Judicial Stamps, Court Fee Stamps, Indian Postal Orders and Saving Instruments etc. The production technologies facilitates incorporating the state-of-art manufacturing systems with flexibility of adopting the latest technology.

Security Printing Press, Hyderabad is equipped with latest Pre-press, Press and Post-press machinery of high value security documents. The Press also have in-house laboratory to ensure the quality, conformance to high printing standards to guarantee quality, reliability of security features of the products.

Security Printing Press, Hyderabad is also equipped with in-house R&D set-up for product and process improvements, which is an on-going effort. The range of capabilities of the Security Printing Press, Hyderabad are to the extent of printing & Supplying of Postal Stationery & various Security Stamps. To ensure proper security, the Unit has been provided with security cover by an independent Government agency, SPF. They are equipped with latest security gadgets like CCTV, Access Control Systems etc. The security arrangements in the Press are provided and controlled on the advice of Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Security Printing Press, Hyderabad is declared as a “PUBLIC UTITLITY SERVICES ORGANIZATION” and also declared as “Prohibited Place” under Official Secrets Act of Government of India.

As this organization is wholly controlled by Government of India, Ministry of Finance and operates as per Government directions, maintenance of security and secrecy of items manufactured is of highest level. The pricing of SPP/Hyderabad products are done as per the norms and guidelines of Government of India.
